Purveyors O’ Music For Steampunks: N-Z!
There is actually no such thing as “Steampunk Music” but there are a wide and diverse community of Steampunks who happen to make music.
The Nathaniel Johnstone Band
Hailing from Seattle, WA, and lead by multi-instrumentalist Nathaniel Johnstone (violin, viola, banjo, mandolin, and guitar). The band’s vibrant sound crosses boundaries and borders, resulting in a blend of European, Middle Eastern, and South American music with Jazz, Rock, Surf, Folk, Gothic, and Steampunk influences.
Joining the band on stage is world-renown bellydance fusion artist Tempest, adding another incredible level to the band’s dynamic stage show. All together, they provide an incredible audio-visual experience that delivers solid, reliable music and high-quality entertainment – all while getting folks up and dancing!
The New Jacobin Club
A troupe of musicians, magicians, poets, painters and performance artists hailing from the dark cold lands of Western Canada.
Professor Elemental has created a unique neo-Victorian blend of hip hop and comedy, and is the man behind the world’s first steampunk rap album. His music charts subjects such as steam-powered flight, underwater discovery, and nice cups of tea. With a heart of brass and a fine pith helmet, he embodies the Victorian spirit of invention and exploration. His act has gone like clockwork at Steampunk events and music festivals around the world including White Mischief, the Steampunk Worlds fair and The San Francisco Edwardian Ball. He was recently awarded Best Musical Act in the Brighton fringe as well as most Eccentric Englishman and most Eccentric artist.
Rapscallion offer an amusing and unique blend of chapish /steampunk tinged heavy rock, designed to uplift, clear away those pesky doldrums and put an uncontrollable smile on your face. Moog, the bands creator, is oft known in steampunk circles as the director of many Professor Elemental music videos, including Fighting Trousers and Cup Of Brown Joy. Whilst being a popular live band for a good few years, the first album, Maximum Splendid squeezed into being in 2021, aiming to open a tiny crack of light in the puddle of dreariness that was ‘The Unspeakable Year’.
The Silent Companions
Voodoo Punk Cabaret that Tango’s on your heart, Waltzes in your head and Shanties down your gizzards – all whilst addressing life’s major conundrums
“The sort of music you’d get if Genesis started writing songs with Nick Cave after watching too much Dr Who!”
The Steampunk Stompers
A musical melange of the sounds of times past, present, and future fused into a steam-fueled frenzy that will inspire wild abandon and much toe-tapping! With colorful melodies, eclectic selections, inspired costuming, and masterful ability on their instruments, this group maintains a level of musicianship and showmanship that proves their professionalism in spades. An evening with The SteampunkStompers is an evening not soon forgotten!
Thy Last Drop
Three vagabonds telling tales of 19th century death, debauchery and the drop….
The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing
Old school punk rock. Like, REALLY old school. – Genuine 100% actual Londoners, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing come from a past which probably never happened via a present they didn’t want. Less steampunk and more “SteamPUNK”, the British four piece mix Anarchy and Anachrony in equal measure. Expect a robot Sid Vicious covering Slayer in an 1877 East End Music Hall: a murky mix of Doctor Who, Doctor Watson and Doctored History. Not for the faint hearted or those of a delicate disposition.
Ullalele is a progressive steamplunk ukulele rock quartet who take 19th century scientific romances and re-interpret them as ukulele operas. We are the only purveyors of Steamplunk – a unique musical genre combining steampunk lyrics and the thrilling sound of ukuleles, vocals and electronica (moog and theremin).
Check out our youtube channel and listen to a complete interpretation of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds performed on only four ukuleles with vocals and narration. You can also find our current project, an original musical interpretation of H G Well’s “The Time Machine” with epic songs and narration, there as well.
We also compose original music with steamplunk themes.

Formed in 2006, Valentine Wolfe is the combined effort of the Lady Sarah Black and Braxton Ballew. Imagine Sarah Brightman being backed by Francois Rabbath blowing through a Marshall stack at midnight. Having dubbed their music “Victorian Chamber metal”, the duo have synthesized a love of metal, classical and industrial, infusing them with a Victorian sensibility that evokes the likes of Bram Stoker and Edgar Allan Poe.
The Velveteen is a Steampunk-inspired band featuring members of Cirque Noir from Ventura, California. Blending rock/metal elements, in a fantastical sci-fi context, scrambled in the genius of Greater Then Zero’s (GTZ) Ableton Live steam powered blender.
The Velveteen began at 1pm on May 11th 2014 at a cosplay expo after party, and features Fum (the puppet played by Claire Flores) on vocals, Chris Coyle of Cirque Noir on drums, GTZ (Aaron Levitz) on keyboards and programming, and leading the this avant-garde orchestra is none other then, the Baron Von Velveteen on guitar and trumpet.
Veronique Chevalier, aka The “Weird Val” of Dark Cabaret, is a woman of many hats. Literally, as well as figuratively. She’s an Entertainer/MC/Panelist who’s plied her trade at Steampunk & Comic Book events throughout the US.

In a bloody sky, Victor Sierra’s airship Hydrogen Queen leads you into a vaporous and multicolored universe down unexplored paths to a future that might have been… ‘Electric Rain’ reveals the many facets of the band … Masterminds on a putsh and spies lost in a ‘laberinto’ scratch the door of the ‘yiddishe club’. Anouk, Bob and Big Machine’s energies invite you to go beyond the horizon, to be stirred in unison and to engage with the unpredictable. They bid you enter Victor Sierra’s universe… if you dare!
Victorian Trout Conspiracy
Think of the Victorian era and you’re hit by images of the industrial revolution, Magic & mysticism, time machines & genius detectives, Gothic clothing & architecture and the doubling of the British population as sexual appetites exploded. Victorian Trout Conspiracy slam all these grim and gritty Victorian influences together and bring them forth to the present in a time machine of their own making brandishing a sexy, sleazy and unique meld of rock, ska, funk and pop.
Lady Violet Hugh will enthral you with her songs about life, love and gin. Some people have said that some of her songs are downright filthy, which is grossly unfair. Perhaps those people need to look at themselves… mmmm….? What is so filthy about dogging, after all?
Backwoodsman slaughterhouse steampunk blues apt to leave you feeling pleasurably dirty and perhaps even slightly soiled!
Unassuming, unusual and enigmatic, T.E. Yates is a multi-disciplinary artist of rare and disarming qualities that must be seen and heard to be believed.
5or7 are a Tasmanian 4 piece SteamPunk band. Lurking on the dark side is our speciality.
